Digital Footprint / Digital Citizenship

A digital footprint is like a trail that you leave whenever you go to a website or search for something, a bit like a trail of bread crumbs, or a footprint. It also means being wise about what you do online; anyone can find out about it.

A good digital citizen should always leave nice comments on someone elses blog, eMail, or videos. A person would not be happy to find a bunch of negative comments on their website or eMail.

A good example of a good digital citizen is someone who does not copy someone elses stuff, and say it is their own. I know I would be furious if someone decided to take my writings and use for for a project or say that they did it.

A digital citizen should always be careful about what they put out; it could effect their future life, and the worst part is they can never get rid of it after it's already been put out. It could also effect you if you are trying to get a job.

Some good things about being a digital citizen is that you might win the chance to win a million dollars! Usually you don't. But it could happen. Another good thing is that the internet is a way to communicate with friends or relatives from a very very very long distance, or something like that.

Digital citizenship is related to social responsibility because you have to be a good citizen on or off the court, the court being your online life. I mean you you need to be careful even if you are not logged on your computer. Always remember the golden rule.

Assignment: DigiTeen Introduction

After reading some introductions from other students in the project:

1. Look at the rubric so that you will know how the introduction will be graded (advanced is worth the most points, beginning is worth the least points).
2. Write 5 - 10 (or more) sentences to introduce yourself.
3. Pay particular attention to correct spelling, capitalization and punctuation - this is SCHOOL WRITING, not TEXT writing.

Hi, I'm Rhys. I live in Anamosa, IA and I go to West Middle School. I have three cats and a dog, plus a rat. My favorite sport is soccer because it's easy to understand and really fun. Some people don't think so, though. My talent is spelling, but when I was in a spelling bee I was out on the first word because I'm always nervous. I like to ride my bike and my favorite flavor ice cream is vanilla. My favorite food is steak, cooked medium rare with a side of steak fries. I sleep in a bunk bed with a desk underneath it, instead of another bed. My favorite football team is the Hawkeyes. My favorite baseball team is the Baltimore Nationals. I used to live in Annapolis, Maryland until I moved to Iowa. My name is actually pronounced Reece, but is spelled R-H-Y-S. Pretty strange, huh?
